Eden golf news: JB Reeves took home the Lynrock Match Play Championship on sunday with a very impressive round of golf from the 43 old. Reeves had to rally from 3 down on the front nine and then beat John Harris in a sudden death playoff on number 10 just to make the cut. At that point Reeves and Darell Oakes did battle for the title. Reeves was able to pull off the win by just 2 holes at the end. Reeves quoted" my ball striking today was just there for me and if you are striking the ball well the score will come". Also something to note is the play of Darell Oakes. He was tied going into the ninth hole with Scott Reeves. Oakes hit an incredible shot on 9 and holed out to get to the final group. Oakes and Reeves had a great battle going down to the wire but a bad tee shot on 17 put Oakes behind and Reeves won the final two holes. Reeves stated "wins are fun but the best part of the day was I played with a great bunch of friends! " stay tuned for more action next week.

World Golf News: Darrell Oakes takes home the win Saturday in the Shell Invitational at Goodyear. Oakes had a opening round of 44 and followed it up with a 41 on the back to best the field by 9 strokes. It was quite a impressive round of golf on a golf course that has been known to chew up golfers and spit em out. John Harris took second place on an afternoon of abudant sunshine and plesant temps. Harris had a couple of opportunities to close the gap but Oakes was just too consistent. Harris stated "everytime I would make a par he would too, its hard to catch up when someone plays as well as he did today" Oakes kept the ball out of trouble most of the day and had what may have been one of his best ever days of putting the ball. Oakes quoted "had a great round today and man was the putter working, couple of long putts I was just trying to cozy the ball up to the hole but they where going in" JB Reeves came home in 3rd place. This week the tour heads to Meadows of Dan, Va. to play in the biggest tournament of the year. The Masters at Primland. The Highland Course is the venue and it is one tough golf course. The action begins at 11:30 on Sunday.

Virginia Pro Tour news: Darell Oakes wins the Masters at Primland! Oakes walks away with the victory on the Highland Course @ Primland to take the trophy for the 2nd consecutive year. The #1 in the world showed why he is the Fed Ex points leader by staying out of trouble and just keeping the ball in play to shoot a round of 92 to win by one stroke over second place John Harris. To say the very least, the match was very interesting down to the end. Oakes had a 3 shot lead going to the par 5 17th but Harris was able to pull off the 3 shot swing as he got the birdie and Oakes carded a double bogey for the hole. The 18th would prove who the winner will be, after hitting into trouble on the tee shot Harris made a good recovery to take a double bogey but Oakes was able to bogey the hole and win the tournament. Stay tuned for the next time the tour hits the links!

Virginia Golf Tour news: Harris takes the trophy at the U.S. Open at Crooked Tree!! John Harris is the 2011 US open champion with rounds of 41 on the front and back at Crooked Tree Golf and Resort. Harris was solid all day as he kept the ball in play and on target. Second place finish goes to Darell Oakes. Oakes could not make a charge and finished 5 stokes off the pace. Third place went to Scott Reeves. Interesting to note is after the first round Reeves and Harris where tied and Oakes was just 2 back. Oakes and Reeves never got the chance to close on the lead with Harris being in such great form on a Sunday. "John was not to be denied today" was the quotes of both. The highlight shots of the day came on 8 and 9 as Scott Reeves took birdies on both holes by holing out from off the green. On 8 a 40 yard chip found its way in and on 9 a 30 foot putt snaked its way to the bottom of the cup. But, it was not to be for Scott on this day. Oakes won the total prize money on the day but Harris was the trophy winner. Harris quoted "i would of liked to win more holes but i got what i came for and thats this trophy" Stay tuned for more news the next time the tour hits the links..

Virginia Tour: Darell Oakes wins his second major of the year! Darell Oakes has won once again this year on the tour and what a time to do it, Darell brings home the Open championship at Goodyear Golf Course. Oakes was able to card a 91 on the day to best the field. All was in order as the day started off tough as expected on this very trying track of 18 holes. The finishing order on the day was John Harris second, JB Reeves third, and Scott Reeves in forth. Oddly enough is thats the world rankings of each to boot. Darell was very methodical in his play on the front nine and built a lead of 5 strokes on everyone before heading to the back nine. The highlight on the front was the 8th hole par 5 for Darell. A stray tee shot resulted in a drop shot from about 270 yard away but Darell was still able to rally and get the par. "John got a par there and I could have easily double bogeyed the hole, that could have got him right back in it". Harris quotes "yeah that could of helped heading to the back, its tough to make up 5 stokes on the number one in the world." Harris tried to mount a charge the last couple holes but Oakes held on to win the tourney by 3 strokes. JB and Scott Reeves had some good holes on the play of the day but were never a factor. Oakes just this week sighed a new sponser. Bridgestone Tire Inc... Oakes said "it was great to sign a new sponser this week and how uncanny is that, this win comes at Goodyear golf course." All this reporter can say is looks like goodyear might to make em some golf balls....... Stay tuned for more action......
